Lush hand-tied florals, delicate vintage-inspired details and subtle rustic accents lent Anna Grovijohn and Chase White’s summer wedding a relaxed, romantic feel. The couple paired the understatedly elegant aesthetic with plenty of DIY details. All of the wood signage and the reception backdrop came from Anna’s childhood home. Her late grandfather spent weeks taking the wood panels off of the framework and ensuring each nail was removed. Being close with her grandfather, it was the perfect way to include him in the celebration. The flowers were another labor of love. “The peonies were a community effort. My mom asked her friends to save their peonies by cutting them, wrapping them in newspaper and putting them in the freezer for a month,” Anna says. “My mom and I unwrapped them all and stuck them in water four days before the wedding and they opened beautifully!” The bright pink blooms were arranged alongside silver dollar eucalyptus and ivory pillar candles. Navy dinnerware and pale blue etched glassware brought a pop of color to the tablescapes. For dessert, the newlyweds skipped the traditional wedding cake and served up a selection of donuts made by their close family friends in Omaha. “Mark at Petit Pastries used to make all of the desserts for after our home volleyball games at Midland, so it was a nice touch to have something that brought back so many wonderful memories,” Anna says.
