A Relaxed, Colorful Barn Wedding at Shady Wagon Farm in New Hill, North Carolina

Ashley Marlowe (26 and an engineer) drew from her farm upbringing when it came to her nuptials to Jonathan (Jony) Pierce (30 and an engineer) and wanted to host a simple-yet-rustic celebration that felt like a backyard family barbecue. The pair hosted a relaxed barn wedding at Shady Wagon Farm in New Hill, North Carolina, filled with DIY decor and a plum, orange and cream color palette. "Shady Wagon Farm had plenty of room for everyone. I could get married outdoors over a pond, and they had plenty of room for people to play yard games outside," says Ashley. "Plus, the barn where the reception was held was already decorated, so all I'd need to do was decorate tables!" Ashley carried a vibrant orange daisy and lily bouquet in honor of her grandmother that popped against the bridesmaids' plum gowns. For the casual celebration, Ashley changed into a bohemian-inspired short lace dress complete with a daisy and baby's breath flower crown. To create a family get-together vibe, the couple had a variety of yard games and toys for all of the children in attendance. "Our love of family and friends and how simple we are really came through with how easy-going the whole event was," says Ashley.

Ashley originally had absolutely no idea what type of dress she wanted and quickly learned she was not meant to wear a mermaid-style gown. As soon as she tried on the off-white strapless chiffon and lace gown with beaded accents, she knew it was her dress.

Ashley honored her grandmother by carrying a colorful bouquet of her favorite flowers. "My grandmama Ellen taught me all about flowers as I grew up, and she unfortunately passed before I was married," says Ashley. "I wanted to remember her in a very important, meaningful way."
"The bridesmaid bouquets were simple, lightweight and also pretty inexpensive," says Ashley. "But they were just enough color to really pop against the plum dresses."

A Hockey Stick Exit
Ashley and Jony love to listen to music and sent out vinyl wedding invitations that set the tone for their plum and cream color palette. Our wedding invitations had vinyl albums.
