Meg Christopher (30 and a kindergarten teacher) was set up on a blind date with Mitchell Hill (32 and in insurance) and quickly began dating long distance. After a year a driving back and forth between Savannah and Athens, Mitchell surprised Meg with an intimate proposal at home. "I knew he was coming to visit and headed home after happy hour to wait for him to arrive," says Meg. "But when I walked in my door, I noticed the alarm didn't go off and before I could panic I noticed a trail of roses—Mitchell was waiting with champagne at the end of the trail in my sunroom and I couldn't have been happier!" For their preppy relaxed affair, the couple planned a destination wedding on Jekyll Island at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel for close family and friends. "Since we were doing a small wedding, I wanted a chapel and a reception location that were both in walking distance from the hotel," says Meg. "I loved that right after the ceremony, our families could walk next door and get the party started while we finished a few photos." Getting married on Valentine's Day weekend, Meg and Mitchell tried to avoid the expected red and pink color palette and instead went with lush cream flower arrangements in blue and white porcelain vases. After a night of dancing under the stars, Mitchell surprised Meg with their honeymoon location—all she knew was to pack for warm weather!

The couple wanted a destination wedding that would still be convenient for their families and chose Jekyll Island Club Hotel as soon as they saw it.
The bride's grandmother made special snacks for the guests' hotel rooms: cheese straws, spiced pecans and sesame cookies.
