A Refined Estate Wedding at Separk Mansion in Gastonia, North Carolina

A year after Lauran Hoopaugh (29 and estimates for a construction company) and Justin Harris (31 and regional director for Ducks Unlimited) first met at an oyster roast, the couple decided to take a trip to ring in the new year. "Justin had planned a geo-caching activity for us on New Year's Eve morning—it was very cold outside—but we started on a trail, utilizing our handheld GPS unit to find clues and different hidden stations," says Lauran. "On station three, which was the scenic overlook station, he told me to open the jar with the clue and inside was a note that he had hand written—it was the most perfect moment of my life!" Ten months later, the couple exchanged vows during a garden ceremony at Separk Mansion in the groom's hometown of Gastonia, North Carolina. "I pretty much knew when I walked into Separk Mansion that I loved it," says Lauran. " It had big beautiful crystal chandelier's, rich dark hardwood floors, two parlors with black and white marble tile, and an amazing garden for the ceremony." It was easy for the couple to plan their elegant details once they decided on their traditional venue. Lauran originally thought she wanted bright, colorful flowers, but the more she fell in love with her venue, she realized that a muted palette would look best. "I wanted to incorporate simplicity," says Lauran. "I believe it's very underrated!" As a personal touch, the couple thanked guests with mini apple pound cakes from their favorite local farmers' market.
