A Quirky, Classic Spring Wedding at Castle Hotel & Spa in Tarrytown, New York

For their spring wedding at the Castle Hotel & Spa in Tarrytown, New York, Danlu and Eli pulled off a classic fete with shades of pale rose pink and tranquil blue and plenty of playful, personalized touches.

Playing up the whimsical appeal of the historic setting, voluminous, cascading bouquets of wildflowers, textured greenery and coral peonies topped the reception tables. “Everything about the flowers—the volume, the color and the ratio of flowers to greens—was just right,” Danlu says. Further amplifying the effect were the vibrant watercolor escort cards, menus, programs and table numbers that Danlu designed herself.

The real pièce de résistance, however, was the unexpected details tucked into the décor. In addition to miniature Lego superhero escort cards—a nod to their first date, during which they watched Batman: The Dark Knight Returns—the couple enlisted the help of their friends to construct Lego reproductions of New York City (where they first met) and London (where Danlu worked for six months). “The cake toppers? Also Lego!” Danlu says.

The pair also paid tribute to their Chinese heritage throughout the evening, incorporating traditional elements such as white-and-blue ceramic vases and Chinese characters for the table numbers.
