A Preppy Wedding at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts
Boston was the basis for Caitlin O’Malley (28 and an MBA candidate) and Peter Maglathlin’s (32 and en entrepreneur) lavish museum wedding. “The city of Boston holds a special place in our hearts,” Peter says. “It’s where we met, fell in love and got engaged.” A sophisticated “secret garden” theme spurred the day’s verdant design, which called for ivy-trailed arbors, a subtle fern motif and an overgrown altar. “It was important that the design didn’t feel too over-the-top,” Caitlin says. “I wanted it to look subtle, messy and magical. The flowers and lanterns made the space feel like we had just stumbled upon it." Bridesmaids rocked printed black gowns, while Caitlin wore an ivory crepe sheath complete with a dramatic yet delicate train. “My favorite part of my dress was the train,” she says. Over 300 guests gathered to watch Caitlin and Peter wed in the museum’s outdoor courtyard before dinner and dancing commenced in the nearby rotunda, which boasted a massive bar. “The bar was amazing,” Caitlin says. “It was as long as the room, meaning no one had to wait for a drink.” The newlyweds swayed to an upbeat first dance song: Marvin Gaye’s “How Sweet It Is.”
