A Preppy Waterfront Wedding at The Riviera Ballroom in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
Between the preppy black-and-white-stripe accents and sophisticated peony arrangements, Clare McDonnell (27 and an events and facilities coordinator) and Michael (Mike) Kalimuthu (27 and a developer) pulled off a preppy-meets-refined ballroom affair. Inspired by the bride's childhood summers at her grandparent's lake house, the couple decided on a Lake Geneva destination celebration. "When we searched online for Lake Geneva venues, the Observatory immediately struck us for our ceremony," says Clare. "And knew as soon as we saw The Riviera Ballroom that it would be perfect for our reception -- the lake views are amazing, and you can bring anything in to really make the unique venue your own." A traditional black, white, blush and gold color scheme with stripe accents created a classic-yet-nautical feel. Black and white stripes were carried through from the bridesmaids' clutches and bouquet wraps to the graphic napkins that popped against the pale linens. Milk glass centerpieces filled with peonies, hydrangeas and dusty miller were set on mirrored trays and created a vintage flair, while Chicago table names were incorporated as a nod to the couple's current city. The newlyweds have always loved summertime trips to Lake Geneva and hoped their guests would equally enjoy their weekend there. "We had our rehearsal dinner on a boat the night before, our ceremony outdoors and reception on the lake," says Clare. "Everyone loved being outside enjoying the beautiful weather and being on the lake!"
