A Preppy Vintage Wedding at The Cheney Place in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Jordan VanDyke (26 and a social worker) and Katelyn Byker (25 and a special education teacher) met through the residential treatment home for at-risk youth where they both worked. Jordan would walk the kids to school in the morning and found himself spending more and more time helping out in the classroom. They continued to see each other in the classroom and on break for 10 months until Jordan asked Katelyn on a real dinner date. It only took another 5 months for them to realize they wanted to spend their lives together and on a spring break trip to see Jordan's parents in Arizona, he proposed. The ceremony was held at the beautiful Tinity CRC, chosen for it's large brick structure and extravagant white pillars. For the reception, friends and family gathered nearby at The Cheney Place, famed for it's vintage furnishings and industrial chic decor. Jordan and Katelyn accentuated the beauty of the venue with a preppy color palette of navy, blush and gold. Each table was lined with navy stripes down the center and an assortment of pitchers and vases full of blush colored blossoms. As guests began the cocktail hour, the bride and groom made their entrance down an rickety, old wooden elevator. A large rustic menu of applewood bacon chicken with apricot and cherry mustard and sea salt roasted prime rib was served before friends and family headed over to the refurbished dressers serving as an assorters cupcake dessert buffet. After hours of dancing, guests headed home with bags of custom-made kettle corn and caramel corn.
