A Preppy Southern Wedding at The Gadsden House in Charleston, South Carolina
Inspired by the city of Charleston, Jennifer Kochesfahani (29 and a director and lead wedding planner) and Clay Buchanan (33 and a portfolio risk manager) used a watercolor palette and preppy Southern touches for their springtime nuptials. “I wanted my girls to look Charleston glam!” Jennifer says of her bridesmaids, who donned maxi dresses adorned with tassels, medallions and intricate black beading. Jennifer’s own ivory mermaid gown included delicate feathers on the neckline. Pastel tones accented the day: light blue charger plates, blue glass goblets, blush-hued florals and pink votives. Invitations included a watercolor painting of the venue and custom-made, pineapple-shaped wax seals in pink, pale blue and gold. To honor Jennifer’s Persian heritage, the couple included a sofreh aghd, a display of symbolic items including a mirror, spices, fruit, coins and a holy book, which represent a couple’s new life together. “My dad traveled all the way to the Middle East to buy the authentic items,” Jennifer says. Other unique touches included miniature pineapple boutonnieres, a retro bus that escorted the wedding party from the church to the estate where the reception was a held and bundles of freshly spun cotton candy.
