A Preppy Mountain Wedding at Crowne Plaza Resort and Golf Club Lake Placid in New York

Sleek stripes and punchy polka dots put a playful, modern twist on Kate Preston and Katie DiFranco’s fall wedding in Lake Placid, New York. The pair chose a color palette of burnt orange, navy, white and gold, and passed on expected autumnal elements such as pumpkins and leaves in favor of terrariums, bundles of eucalyptus, succulents and geometric lanterns. Long farm tables, monogrammed wingback sweetheart armchairs and hand-lettered wood signage added a hint of coziness and rustic flair to the décor. Kate and Katie took full advantage of the striking natural setting, hosting the ceremony and reception in the Crowne Plaza Lake Placid’s Golf House, which offered spectacular views of the changing foliage and the Adirondack Mountains. “I wanted the day to be full of family and love, but I also wanted to give people a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Kate says. “Most of my guests had never been to Lake Placid, so I wanted to make sure the view was spectacular and the party was a blast.” With cocktail hour taking place on the lawn, the couple had custom fleece blankets that doubled as favors made to keep guests warm as they mixed and mingled in the crisp autumn air. Other personal touches included a postdinner doughnut wall (plus Kate’s grandma’s famous banana cream pie) and a custom ceremony and vows. “The ceremony, vows and speeches blew me away. The ceremony was the part I was the most nervous about, but it ended up being my favorite part,” Kate says. “It was conducted by a very good friend of ours. We let her have free reign of the whole thing—we had no idea what she was going to say until the moment she said it. The message could not have been better!”
