Danielle Kern (30 and self-employed) and Rodney Mimms (32 and who works in printing) first met in high school and instantly had a connection. The couple dated on and off through college and even lost touch for a year, but eventually found their way back to each other and became inseparable from that point on. After eight years together, Rodney popped the question with a one carat princess cut diamond ring. When it came to planning their wedding, the couple planned a destination affair in Newport, RI at the Hyatt Regency Newport. "Rodney and I wanted an outdoor, oceanfront wedding, but without the all the sand," says Danielle. "The Hyatt had everything we wanted — a beautiful outdoor lighthouse as the backdrop for our ceremony and an outdoor pavilion to host the reception. We loved it!" Danielle and Rodney opted for simple, yet elegant decor that highlighted all the things they love — the ocean, the outdoors and traveling. They chose a cheerful summery color palette of coral, ivory and bright lime green and decorated both the ceremony and reception spaces with arrangements of classic flowers like roses, hydrangeas and dusty miller. Postcards from places the couple had visited together served as the table names, a travel bag card box, a map guest book and bottles of locally made Del's lemonade were fun details that brought Danielle and Rodney's travel theme to life.

Danielle walked down the aisle in a strapless fit-and-flare gown. The skirt featured layers of organza ruffles for added fullness, while crystal and beaded embellishments introduced a hint of glamor to the gown.
"I wanted my bridesmaids to wear dresses they felt comfortable in, that fit their unique bodies and personalities," says Danielle. Each girl chose a style they loved in a bright coral hue.
Rodney looked sharp in a gray tailored tuxedo. For a fresh pop of color that tied into the wedding's color scheme, he opted for a coral dress shirt and striped tie in a similar shade.
The couple incorporated a subtle super hero theme throughout the day, like super hero-inspired cufflinks worn by Rodney and his groomsmen.

For a classic, romantic feel, Danielle and Rodney had a string ensemble play classical music softly in the background as they exchanged vows.

To take full advantage of the perfect summer weather, the couple opted for an outdoor reception at the Hyatt Regency Newport waterfront pavilion, overlooking a vast expansive of beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
To highlight their love of travel, Danielle and Rodney referred to their tables as "destinations", using vintage post cards instead of table numbers. Each table was named after a different city or country they had visited.
Keeping with the summer season, Danielle and Rodney gave their guests bottles of Del's Pink lemonade, a Rhode Island favorite.
Danielle and Rodney's almond flavored wedding cake was decorated with layers of white fondant, bright pink ribbons, ivory orchids and a playful Batman and Wonder Woman cake topper.
When it came time for the cake cutting, Danielle and Rodney donned super hero aprons — Batman for Rodney and Wonder Woman for Danielle.
