A Natural Wedding With a Vintage Twist at Stafford Lake Park in Novato, California
Although the bustling urban area was just miles away, this vintage wedding at Stafford Lake Park in Novato, California, couldn't have felt closer to nature. "The area is one of the Marin County parks, where my husband and I love spending time on the weekends as a way of getting out of the city," Sarah Montoya (32 and a hospital chaplain) says of her marriage to Trevor McNeil (32 and a middle school teacher). "I find that I connect to the sacred most when I am in nature, and for me, my wedding was a sacred event." The outdoor beauty of the park's landscaping required Sarah and Trevor to use minimal additional decor, and they paired the natural surrounding elements with a neutral palette that was captured by Rachel Goble Photography. Sarah's dress was made up of two entirely different pieces—a BHLDN lace overlay with above-the-elbow sleeves that draped over a simple white ModCloth dress with a sweetheart neckline. The bridesmaids followed the neutral palette by wearing a silver or gray dress in the style of their choice, and the groomsmen wore gray vests that matched Trevor's gray suit, which he wore with a bright blue tie. Vintage flair was brought to the reception through white lace linens on wooden dining tables, which were decorated with colorful arrangements of wildflowers in glass vases. We loved the DIY bouquets and boutonnieres that incorporated fresh lavender blooms in the mix, in addition to peonies, roses and a variety of other classic flowers. "I picked the flowers up and a crew of my friends helped me assemble them the day of the wedding," Sarah says. "The time of year was perfect, and I loved the variety of bright yellows, reds, purples, blues, pinks and orange that I was able to find and use."
