A Natural Wedding at Crooked Creek Ranch in Leelanau County, Michigan
rn Already deeply rooted in agriculture, outdoor enthusiasts Laura Rigan (23 and an agricultural technician) and Peter Rigan (23 and an assistant winemaker) knew they wanted their wedding to involve as much of the beautiful farm landscapes Michigan has to offer. Crooked Creek Ranch, located on the shores of Lake Leelanau, had everything they envisioned: The venue is connected to Laura’s uncle, and it embodied a laid-back, natural ambience for their outdoor celebration. A Day in May, Event Planning & Design helped with coordinating each step of the day and bringing in pops of purple and rustic decor to fit the setting. Laura and Peter exchanged vows overlooking Lake Leelanau under an organically styled wooden wedding arch crawling with vines and flowers. The florists at Field of Flowers also created vibrant, natural floral arrangements, ranging from Laura’s bouquet to wooden flower-box centerpieces on each dining table. Following a tented dinner, guests proceeded into the barn for an evening of dancing. But not before Dan and Melissa Photography captured some of Laura’s favorite photos—with her uncle’s vintage truck, Jesebel. “Our wedding reflected us as a couple because we are so attached to this region where we grew up and wanted to highlight the natural resources we are so blessed to have,” Laura says.
