A Musical, DIY Outdoor Wedding at Winfrey Point in Dallas, Texas
Sommer Neff, 32 and a nonprofit manager, met Galen Smith, 35 and also in nonprofit management, while attending a party Sommer hosted while in graduate school at the University of Denver. They were drawn together at first by their love of music, but quickly realized that their connection went far beyond that. When Sommer found a job in Dallas, Galen packed his things and drove to Dallas. The couple realized they wanted to stay in Texas for the long haul—and do it together. Their wedding was full of personal touches and the music that brought them close. One of the couple’s friends played acoustic music during the ceremony and cocktail hour. The reception and décor was filled with DIY elements, such as paper lanterns for outdoor décor as well as lawn games behind the porch, and painted picture frames to go along with the apricot, mint and ivory floral design. Galen’s idea was to have an “empty frame” theme, as the couple will have a lifetime to fill these frames together during their marriage. Instead of a guest book, guests signed an acoustic guitar. The couple also replaced the traditional first dance with a ‘first song,’ and performed a series of romantic melodies for their guests, changing the lyrics to some to make them personal and show their undeniable love for each other. Overall, this Dallas wedding was hip, musical and romantic in the city Galen and Sommer have grown to love.
