A Multiday Cultural Wedding at Sheraton Mahwah in Mahwah, New Jersey
Myla Arumugam (27 and a lawyer) and Harshil Patel's (29 and a doctor) two-day, multicultural wedding fused traditional Hindu and Jewish customs. Though the celebrations welcomed over 400 guests, the couple kept some things simple and close to the heart. Most members of the bridal party were family, and sentimental details like photos in the lobby and family heirlooms were used in each ceremony. The traditional Hindu ceremony was bright and vibrant, like the pink in Myla's lehenga, the gold in Harshil's sherwani and the shades of blue in the bridal party's outfits. The costume on the horse that carried Harshil to the ceremony was bright red and had ornate details. The Jewish wedding featured muted colors like pale pink bridesmaid dresses. Family heirlooms included at both ceremonies were Myla's grandparents' and sister's wedding bands, her grandfather's tallit (prayer shawl) and kiddush cup and an heirloom dagger that has been used in weddings in Harshil's family for generations. —Allie Volpe
