After a year and a half of dating, Kristyn had her hopes up that Chris would pop the question during their New Year’s trip to Disney World with Chris’ family. But when New Year’s Day came and went without a proposal, Kristyn figured that it wasn’t going to happen for a little while. The Bride Kristyn Mathewson, 23, a speech-language pathologist assistant The Groom Christopher Chris Mowen, 24, a laboratory technician and pharmacy student The Date August 1 So it came as a complete shock when, at dinner alone on January 3, dessert arrived on two covered silver plates. When the cover was lifted off of Kristyn’s plate, she saw the words “Will you marry me?” written in out in chocolate. Stunned, she looked up and there was Chris, down on one knee holding an open ring box.

Kristyn and Chris are both from San Antonio and were lucky enough to exchange vows in the church Chris’ family belongs to. They chose a traditional ceremony at 4:30 in the afternoon and had readings from Song of Solomon, Corinthians, and Mark.

Tables were decorated with one of three centerpieces: a high arrangement, a medium arrangement, and a low arrangement. Each design featured hydrangea. Because the museum wouldn’t allow candles with real flames, Kristyn created a glowy vibe with LED candles instead.
The couple combined the escort cards and favors by tying a card with each guest’s name and table assignment onto a box of elegantly wrapped personalized M&M’s. The gifts and cards were displayed on a round table with a floral arrangement in the center.
Once Kristyn and Chris decided on their colors, they had a custom damask pattern designed. They used the motif on the escort cards, menu cards, and the ceremony programs. The entire back side of the single-page program was embellished with the design.
The couple danced to “Faithfully” by Journey for their first dance. They opted for a DJ so they could have a wide variety of music at the reception.
Yellow Table Cards
Kristyn and Chris chose the lemontini for their signature drink at the cocktail hour. It was a clever play on their yellow theme.
Kristyn wanted her cake to resemble the flowers for the reception, so she chose a buttercream icing that was adorned with various types of sugar blooms.
The bridesmaids wore floor-length satin dresses in charcoal. To keep the men’s looks streamlined, they all wore the same classic black tuxedo. Chris accessorized it with a white tie, instead of gray like the other guys, to set his look apart.
The party took place at the McNay Art Museum. “The grounds are so beautiful, and we loved that our guests would be able to tour the collections during the cocktail hour,” Kristyn explains.
The centerpieces were mostly yellow and white, so Kristyn brought in the gray color with charcoal linens and silver-beaded chargers.
