A Modern Wedding at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia

Dustin Dove (left) and Andy Zalewski didn’t have a theme for their wedding at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia (PAFA), but they drew inspiration from various traditions. “We did a Quaker self-affirming marriage and turned the certificate signing into a faux ketubah ceremony,” the couple says. “We also had aspects to the wedding that reflected our mishmash heritage of Polish and Southern.” For the ceremony inside PAFA, Dustin wore a navy suit, and Andy chose a brighter blue option. “We decided early on to wear suits for the ceremony that could be used again in the future for other occasions. Other than making sure the suits didn’t completely clash with each other, we didn’t coordinate too much,” the couple says. Dustin and Andy chose minimal reception décor to keep the focus on the museum’s architecture. The elegant dinner tables boasted neutral linens, simple flowers and plant arrangements. To end the night, the grooms changed into bright patterned jackets, which they found on clearance.

Our favorite #MakeTradition Moment: “There wasn’t any theme to the wedding, but we did have fun making up our own traditions as we went along,” the couple says.
