A Modern Urban Wedding at Waterfire Events Center in Providence, Rhode Island

Amy DeBlasio and Brandon Grandmaison didn't choose a specific theme for their wedding, but they went against tradition in many aspects. "We wanted to include bright colors, a lot of art, music and unique touches that we hadn't seen before in other weddings or similar events," Amy says. Case in point: They sent out black, white and neon-green invitations with comic-inspired graphics and art deco typography. They also wed in a rooftop ceremony beneath a modern acrylic chuppah topped with an abundant arrangement of white flowers and leaves. "We signed a beautiful ketubah and then had a Jewish ceremony. We circled each other several times, blessed the wine and challah before dinner, and danced the hora with our guests," Amy says. As a fashion designer, she added sleeves and a sash to her nontraditional ball gown with a layered skirt. What's more, she designed the short gold and black bridesmaid dresses, the groomsmen’s pocket squares and her mom's dress. Brandon sported a classic black tuxedo with a subtle black camouflage brocade fabric. At the reception, inside Waterfire Events Center, guests sat at long tables with black linens and tall, leafy centerpieces. "Because the venue was essentially a big, empty space, we had an opportunity to make it our own," Amy says. "The décor ensured that Brandon and I and the wedding party would be the center of attention." Amy and Brandon also hung art from the ceiling, decorated with graffiti and had an Elvis impersonator sing their first dance song. An ice cream truck even drove in through garage-style doors for dessert.
