A Modern Southwest Wedding at The Clayton on the Park in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona

Marissa Groom (27, graphic designer) and Matthew Storrs (27, lawyer and comedian) have a true modern love story. The two were introduced through a mutual friend by way of Facebook, when Marissa’s best friend since childhood showed her Matt’s facebook page and said, “he is really cute and I think you’d like him.” Marissa must have approved of his Facebook page, because later that week, she just happened to bump into him in between classes on Arizona State University’s campus and introduced herself. The rest, as they say, was history. The two were married at The Clayton on the Park in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona. Marissa and Matt are both Arizona natives and wanted to keep their wedding close to family and reflective of their love for the Southwest. The weather in Arizona can be unpredictable and very hot, so the couple chose a modern and open venue that allowed them to say their vows indoors but be surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, trees and light. “It ended up being just what we needed, and we felt like we got married in a modern tree house,” says Marissa. The atmosphere was carefree and relaxed, which carried through to Marissa’s dress: a lovely Grecian-style Jill Stuart dress, with which she wore her own blue statement jewelry. A collection of dark blues and light, cactus-y greens made the wedding color palette. “I wanted my wedding to be as organic as the dress itself,” says Marissa. “My wedding colors captured the mood of the desert at night.”
