A Modern Outdoor Wedding at Firehouse Chicago
When planning their modern celebration at Firehouse Chicago, Brandon Greenhouse and Dave Bauer focused on creating an overall feeling of intimacy. "We wanted it to be simple and elegant, but we also wanted it to feel warm and inviting and true to who we are," the couple says. "We had a pretty small wedding of less than 80 people, so we wanted it to be all people who were an integral part of our lives in a very intimate and authentic way." The wedding venue was a 100-year-old decommissioned firehouse turned event space. "The tin ceilings and farmhouse tables, along with the Chicago subway tiles and Edison bulbs, all played a role in creating this feeling of old and new that was present throughout," the grooms say. "The space was honestly so lovely on its own that we had very little to do in terms décor." Brandon and Dave entered the reception by sliding down an old fire pole, and they served dinner from the Tamale Spaceship food truck. "Right as the reception started, we opened the two huge doors of the firehouse to reveal the food truck, and the crowd went crazy!" the couple says. "It was really wonderful seeing all of their faces."
Our favorite #MakeTradition moment: "We made our wedding bands from gold given to us by our mothers and grandmothers. They are so integral to our lives and shaped who we are in so many ways, and it was important that they be a part of this day in lots of little ways," the grooms say.
