A Modern, Local Love Wedding at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge in New York

After Michael (Mike) Haddad (56 and a deputy chief information officer) proposed to Anna Chung (42 and cofounder of a yoga studio) in Brooklyn Bridge Park, outside of their new apartment building, the couple decided to get married at a hotel just steps away. “We wanted an organic and intimate gathering that celebrated the things we love: Brooklyn, the water and the community,” Anna says. The couple called on local artisans to create a refined, relaxed event filled with handmade ceramics, minimal Ikebana-inspired centerpieces and textured grasses that echoed the shoreline. Crisp invitations set the tone for a sharp city affair. Anna carried ninebark, burgundy hydrangeas, plum astrantia and tea roses while her nephew tossed rose petals. At cocktail hour, Anna and Mike served two signature drinks with oyster shooters, lamb meatballs and empanadas. The couple commissioned Brooklyn ceramicist Aviva Rowley to make gunmetal vases that they now use at home. The seating chart scroll pointed guests to their tables, and a calligraphed runner spelled out the menu of spice-crusted tuna, charred sweet corn and halibut. On the orange blossom and vanilla buttercream cake, gradients of brown and white icing mimicked smoked ceramics. Local soaps adorned at each place setting, and bittersweet branches hung from the ceiling.
