A Modern Hip-Hop-Inspired Wedding at SLATE STUDIO in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Instead of sticking with traditions, Jameeta Davis and Lee Davis focused on having fun at their Love & Hip Hop–themed wedding. "We wanted an intimate and chic event that gave a nod to the thing that has always gotten us through life's ups and downs: music," Jameeta says. The couple incorporated music in their ceremony and on the invitation suite, which boasted a save-the-date shaped like a record. Jameeta and Lee decorated their brick-walled venue with a color palette of white, black and metallic accents. They stuck a quote on the wall behind the ceremony site and hung coordinated balloons from the ceiling. Their unique outfits also contributed to the hip-hop theme—the bride wore a trumpet dress with a cape, while the groom rocked a metallic suit jacket and sneakers. For the reception, SLATE STUDIO was transformed with patterned linens on the dining tables, personalized signage and modern lounge furniture. A cake table displaying cake and cookies with hip-hop-style lettering was sectioned off with red ropes.
Our favorite #MakeTradition Moment: Jameeta and Lee loved their personalized wedding vows. "I feel that everyone was expecting the normal vows that you hear at most weddings, but were able to use music in place of words to tell our love story," Jameeta says. "We also brought some humor to it. When it was time for the ring, Lee initially put a Ring Pop on my finger, which everyone got a chuckle out of."
