A Modern, Eclectic Wedding at Gallery 308 in San Francisco, California
A “huge modern art fan,” Betsy Howard incorporated her artsy style into her wedding with Jamie Germano. “I wanted to do something extremely colorful, but still with a moody black backdrop,” she says. The couple wed in an elegant ceremony at the historic Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Betsy dressed up with a simple gown and updo, while Jamie chose a black tuxedo. The bridesmaids and groomsmen also sported classic black ensembles, which juxtaposed with the colorful, eclectic flower arrangements. “We worked together to get the color-blocking motif going, but I really let the florists run with it,” the bride says. “They actually ended up spray-painting some flowers to make them fit the color-blocking.” The modern reception took place at Gallery 308. Going along with the artistic theme, each table had its own designated color palette. “We had a blue table, purple table, gold table, orange table and red/magenta table. But each one had black linens, and the colors came in the details like flowers and napkins,” Betsy says. The couple’s unique wedding cake also stood out, since it had a rainbow-colored bottom tier and black top tiers.
Our favorite #MakeTradition Moment: “We’d been in 10,000 weddings and knew how stressful being in a bridal party can be, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible for our crew,” Betsy “Our only stipulation was their outfits had to be black, and our friends could keep their own style.”
