A Modern, Eclectic Restaurant Wedding at Comal in Berkeley, California

As foodies who love hosting parties, Kat Sebastian and Cody Shields wed at Comal in Berkeley, where the bride works from time to time. Their wedding had plenty of eclectic, vintage elements and a 1970s-inspired color palette of chartreuse, khaki, maroon and coral. "The restaurant is already stunning so I didn't need to do much," Kat says. "The aesthetic is industrial and minimal with cement walls, exposed wood beams, high ceilings and pops of color in the art on the walls. I only added décor with my flowers and my DIY atrium installation." The fashion was retro-inspired: Kat wore a 1960s silk sheath dress with floral embellishments made of pale blue sequins and beads, along with crystal piping detail around the collar and bodice. Cody sported a mossy green linen suit and loafers. The ceremony took place in front of expansive windows, and the reception was inside the restaurant.  The couple decorated the wooden tables with simple white dinnerware, as well as mercury-glass vases with a variety of tropical flowers in bright hues. "Instead of a photo booth, we hired a silhouette artist," Kat says. "We figured photo booths are a little passé and tend to stay in a drawer. I have a collection of vintage profile pieces and had recently gotten our own couple silhouette done. After that, we were immediately inspired to do something a little different for our guests to have a unique keepsake."
