After attending a friend’s nuptials in Palm Springs, Jack Taormina (34 and a manager of an interior design boutique) and Jeff Lawley (32 and a lead recruiter at Google) fell in love with the idea of a desert wedding amid the mid-century architecture of the SoCal oasis. In choosing the Riviera Palm Springs, “We had the opportunity to host everyone in one location,” Jack says. The hotel’s graphic wallpaper and potted succulent arrangements inspired the day's overall style, including the leaf motif on the escort cards, agave plants at the ceremony and the terrariums that topped reception tables. Inspired by their venue’s history as an old-Hollywood getaway, the pair also added glam details like Greek-key-printed linens, patterned paper goods and succulent-hued macarons to the space. “I told our stationer that I loved the feeling of driving into Palm Springs and being greeted by windmills and mountains,” Jack says. The resulting stationery was a visual journey to Coachella Valley, complete with custom illustrations of the sunset and geometric patterns taken from the venue’s wallpaper. “I never thought I’d obsess about paper goods the most,” Jeff adds. Jack and Jeff opted for classic looks that coordinated but didn’t match, topping their tuxes with succulent boutonnieres. The wedding party donned gray suits and black dresses to look “sophisticated but not take away from the setting," Jack says. For dessert, the creative grooms personalized their buttercream confection with two flavors: a refreshing citrus and a decadent horchata churro. The standout moment of the night came when their planner unveiled a surprise: the checkered dance floor at the reception—and the get-down commenced. After making their entrance to Britney Spears’s “Work B**ch,” Jack and Jeff slowed it down with their first dance to Keyshia Cole’s “Heaven Sent.”
