A Modern Black-and-White Wedding at Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Modern minimalists will love these black and white details in Brynn Vitale (30 and a director of corporate communications) and John Bailey’s (31 and a managing director of a private-equity firm) wedding. “I knew I wanted a lot of white at our wedding,” Brynn says. “One of my friends who I go to for a lot of style advice suggested we incorporate some small pops of black to make things pop, and I loved it. It was the perfect palate for us—very simple, yet classic.” The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was a beautiful venue with grand staircases and vibrant, floral-print carpets that let their palette shine. “Grand Rapids has a very special place in my heart, and I wanted a place that was grand in a Midwest way,” Brynn says. The couple worked with Jenn Ederer at Modern Day Floral on all the designs, including a bar with white flowers in black frames and classic touches of black candelabras with white pomanders on the dining tables. “It was really dramatic,” Brynn says. Three things stood out to their guests: a grilled-cheese station with custom toppings, a raw bar with crab claws and a local-beer-tasting station. The biggest standout detail? “We didn’t do a cake—we did cupcakes and other desserts served to the side of the dance floor. We wanted everyone to be up out of their seats as much as possible,” Brynn says. See the details, captured by the talented Karyn May Photography, below.
