After a mutual proposal over a celebratory glass of champagne, Chicago-based couple Nick Kluding (45 and a real estate broker) and Ricardo Mendoza (45 and a pediatric dentist and professor) were chosen as one of fifteen couples to marry at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago to celebrate the passage of historic Illinois legislation guaranteeing all couples the right to wed. "We had been together for over eight years, so we've considered ourselves married for quite a while," the couple explains. With their sons Mateo and Marcelo serving as an adorable set of twin ring bearers, Nick and Ricardo exchanged vows in an intimate, modern ceremony officiated by Reverend Linda Nelson in the museum's Kovler Atrium. Post-ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests retreated to the venue's Kern Terrace to enjoy a music-filled celebration with a Latin DJ, Brazilian caipirinhas and catering courtesy of famed chef Wolfgang Puck. Studio AG Design was even on hand to help decorate the airy, contemporary space. "They created the exact look that we wanted," the couple says of their orchid-filled reception space. Sleek silver wire chairs were paired with light wood tables on the museum's terrace for additional seating. Low-lying arrangements in rectangular, white vases served as centerpieces.
"We wanted a daytime summer look, so we stuck with lighter suit colors," the couple says of their laid-back wedding day style.
White orchids were displayed in geometric, silver bud vases for a chic, contemporary look.
