A Meadowland Farm Wedding With American and British Touches in New York's Hudson Valley

Liana grew up on a working farm that dates back to 1790, so when Callum proposed, an elevated backyard wedding at the Hudson Valley property was in order. The couple called on friends and family to help plan a relaxed event that celebrated local flowers and ingredients. Callum, who is British, designed a pub-like bar area, while Liana’s sister helped create the invitations. After the ceremony, guests mingled by the pool for cocktail hour and took shelter in a tent during the dinnertime thunderstorm. “I love the metaphor that our wedding brought with it the end of a two-month drought,” Liana says. During cocktail hour, a butcher’s table served pork-free charcuterie with house-made pickles. Rabbit pate and mutton pies were made with farm-raised meats, and sides incorporated squash, turnips, cabbage, radishes and herbs grown on-site. The catering staff prepared everything over open wood fires while servers passed wood-roasted chanterelle börek with sage and Tobasi cheese around tables decorated with local phlox, scabiosa, veronica and chamomile. A bluegrass band performed during the ceremony and cocktail hour, and an Irish folk band played traditional Irish jigs for guests after the first dances. The couple’s friends DJ’d past midnight, when guests gathered around a fire for s’mores and coal-roasted brown-butter popcorn.
