A Malachite-Inspired, Jewish Wedding at Long View Gallery in Washington, DC

When Igor Timofeyev (42 and an appellate and international arbitration partner at Paul Hastings) proposed to Donya Khalili (37 and a public policy attorney) in Ireland, her engagement ring was tied around a malachite turtle, which became the focus for their nuptials. “We had malachite everywhere,” Donya says, who decked out the venue in the stone’s pattern and colors, along with greenery and geometric shapes. In a modern Jewish ceremony, the couple exchanged vows under a rustic birch chuppah that was covered with the bride’s father’s tallit, greenery and white blooms. Donya carried an heirloom handkerchief with her bouquet of calla lilies as a nod to her maiden name, Khalili, while Igor sported malachite cufflinks and a green tie to complement their theme. “We wanted a simple, elegant wedding where it was easy to eat and to talk with your tablemates,” Donya says. Wood tables featured low arrangements of greenery, geometric terrariums, candles, white napkins and gold flatware. Gold decorations reminiscent of lanterns hung among the gemstone-green foliage. Anthropologie’s malachite-inspired wallpaper decorated the bar and the stage for the live musicians—The Bachelor Boys— who "were fantastic,” the bride says. The pair took their first spin on the dance floor to “Feels Like Summer” by Tim Wheeler. Signature sips included mint juleps and DC mules. The fondant cake was designed to look like “a pile of malachite stones” and accented with geometric sugar shapes. For an end-of-the-night treat, guests left with Oreos dipped in a white chocolate marble to make them look like malachite stones.
