A mere 10 months after their engagement and 12 years into their love story, Lisa Carpenter (30 and works in investor relations) and Kelly McKee (31 and a film producer) returned to their hometown of Kansas City for their vows. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art was fitting for the event due to its date-night significance for the pair. “We used to go on dates there during college,” Lisa says. “It was neat that we could open some of the galleries for viewing after dinner. It gave guests an activity if they wanted a break from dinner and dancing.” The museum’s iconic shuttlecock statues inspired the save-the-dates and gold-foil envelope liners. A refined palette of white, gold, green and coral brightened up the museum’s interior. The newlyweds linked arms and recessed back up the aisle to the tune of Hall & Oates’s “You Make My Dreams” before selecting “Can’t Help Falling in Love” for their first dance. “We picked that Elvis song after I found an old mix CD I burned for Kelly back in 2006,” Lisa says.
