A Luxe Garden Wedding at Greencrest Manor in Battle Creek, Michigan

Though Miya and Matthew originally pictured their wedding ceremony in California, they decided to head to Michigan for the comfort of Matthew’s grandparents. “We both love Michigan and spending our summers there,” Miya says. “Greencrest Manor felt like France, which was even more magical,” Miya says. From there, the couple played up the chateau-like beauty of the historic space, saying “I do” with a regal fountain backdrop, going minimal and elegant with their décor and choosing a soft, neutral color palette. Even more stunning than the venue, though, was “my 8-year-old daughter’s face when we vowed our love for each other,” Matthew says. Miya went for what she calls “understated elegance” with her short-sleeve lace gown, while Matthew went classic in a black tuxedo. Guests dined alfresco at long, family-style tables on the stone terrace, sitting among the manor’s pear trees and under twinkling lights, which all added to the European chateau vibe. Miya, a part-time calligrapher and stationer, created an heirloom paper suite with a custom crest and custom wax seal. Miya also designed the menus, which topped handmade Italian ceramic, lace-style chargers and bread plates. During their first dance to “I Swear” by All-4-One, “Matthew and I sang the whole song to each other,” Miya says. Afterward, the bride and her dad danced to “My Girl” by The Temptations before beckoning guests to bust a move in a Soul Train–style dance line.  The intricate cake on display mirrored the lace on Miya’s dress, while guests were served strawberry champagne sheet cake with buttercream frosting. The couple anchored tables with antique vases full of garden roses, ranunculus and hellebores to strike a balance between relaxed and elegant.
