A Late Spring Waterfront Wedding at Light House Point Park in New Haven, Connecticut

From the seaside setting to the quirky carousel that stood at the center of the reception, Jennifer Codding (30 and a biochemist) and Holt Bui’s (32 and a chemist) early summer wedding was filled with personality and fun. Drawing on the season for inspiration, the couple chose a color palette of peach, pale gray and sunny shades of yellow to bring an element of vibrancy to their modern decor.

The decision to host the celebration at Light House Point Park, just outside of New Haven, Conn., was an easy one for the pair and the waterfront location offered a picturesque and laid-back backdrop for the day to unfold. “It was practical and fit our personalities,” says Jennifer. “The park offered elegance, affordability, a natural setting and fun.”

Jennifer and Holt said their “I dos” in the sand, as the sparkling blue waters of Long Island Sound twinkled in the bright sunlight. Bunches of fresh hydrangeas, roses and wildflowers lined the aisle, bringing a fresh pop of color to the quaint beach, and Jennifer and Holt’s beagle Ally joined them at the altar, standing by their sides as they exchanged vows. A close friend recited a special poem; the pair shared heartfelt letters and a ring warming was conducted at the start of the proceedings, all of which helped create a highly personalized and special ceremony.

A reception followed in the Carousel House, where lavender lemon drop martinis were served, carousel rides were given and guests got competitive playing games like corn hole, bocce ball and croquet in the sand.

After dinner and dessert — delectable red velvet cupcakes that please even the pickiest of palates — Jennifer and Holt wowed guests with a surprise dance performance to “Con Te Partiro,” then invited the rest of their guests to join them out on the floor.
