A Laid-Back Low-Country Chic Wedding in Charleston, South Carolina

Armed with a photo of a California vineyard wedding that inspired the couple, event planner Tara Guérard transformed an old plantation for their April nuptials. Embracing the gorgeous outdoor setting, Guérard put her own spin on the greenery shown in the picture by adorning the tent with a dramatic grid of lemon leaf garland. Casually chic place settings and flowers played into the bride’s desire to avoid anything too fussy or formal. The Bride Candice The Groom Graham Guérard gave the party a relaxed yet refined feel with decorative touches like upholstered lounge furniture and umbrellas embellished with scalloped trim to match the bride’s gown. Wrought-iron drum shades hung from above, and table lamps provided a warm ambience.

Outdoor Lounge Area
Channeling the couple’s southern ties and the Charleston locale, guests were served Low-Country Lemonade (lemonade and peach schnapps) in individual glass flasks.
Outdooor Ceremony
The dinner menu included sophisticated versions of classic dishes like shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes.
White Bridal Bouquet
Candice wanted a wedding that wasn’t too girly but was still romantic and beautiful. She came to Guérard with just two pieces of inspiration: the photo of the vineyard wedding featuring green garlands, and the look of her teal bridesmaid dresses. From there, she let Guérard run wild.

To ensure a seamless day, Guérard rented generators, two tents and restrooms for the structure-less property. She was even prepared with heaters in case the weather turned cold. “Think about all the things that make a wedding great for the guests—if your guests are having a good time, that’s what makes a good party,” says Guérard. And don’t forget the bug spray!
