A Laid-Back Bohemian Wedding at Thistle Dew in Tetonia, Idaho

Kate Sherman (31 and a marine geographer) and Travis Roth (35 and a snow hydrologist) planned a laid-back bohemian soiree for their midsummer wedding in Tetonia, Idaho. The pair gathered their friends and families at Thistle Dew, a quaint cabin overlooking acres of serene, grassy meadows and the Teton Mountains. The intimate ceremony featured Travis’s best friend as the officiant and Kate’s closest friend giving the reading. The couple brought a piece of their home to the festivities, exchanging vows between two wine barrels they’d brought from Oregon. Candles and succulent wreaths adorned each, bringing a touch of earthy romance to the scene. “Travis and I come from different areas—me from Massachusetts and Travis from Wyoming—but the crowd was filled with people from across the country,” Kate says. A tented reception followed, where guests enjoyed a dinner of Basque country eats and views of the star-studded night sky. Tables were topped with centerpieces of lush succulents, river rocks and moss and burlap and lace runners for a bohemian-chic look. “I really wanted people to feel at home,” Kate says. “The tables were close together to create an intimate setting, which ended up creating a lot of energy. There were no servers or bartenders, either. We simply supplied beer and wine, and it was a serve-yourself kind of night to make everyone feel welcome and at home.” As a thank-you to their guests for their love and support, the newlyweds sent their friends and families home with petite potted succulents. “I love flowers, and most of all when you can take them home and have them grow. We chose succulents, so guests could take them home, replant them and have a memory of the day,” Kate says. —Libby MacCarthy
