A Laid-Back, Bohemian Desert Wedding at El Dorado Canyon Mine in Searchlight, Nevada

With the El Dorado Canyon Mine as their backdrop and an unexpected mix of rustic and vintage touches, Daryen Keahiolalo and Markus Solheim pulled off an eclectic bohemian bash with no shortage of personality for their spring nuptials. Many of the day’s details were DIY, allowing the couple to put their personal mark on the festivities. Daryen used faux florals in bold shades of red, burgundy and peach to create the mason jar centerpieces and her own cascading bouquet. “The ‘fake’ flowers allowed me to put my spin on things and to have something physical to cherish forever,” she said. The ceremony took place outdoors against the picturesque desert landscape, with the couple exchanging vows under a one-of-a-kind wedding arch featuring weathered tree trunks and a vintage stained-glass window. As a surprise for the newlyweds, Daryen’s father brought handmade leis from Hawaii for Daryen and Markus to wear. For the reception, family and friends pitched in their culinary and bartending skills to create a decadent Cinco de Mayo–appropriate feast. As a token to remember the day, Daryen and Markus gifted their guests personalized cactus-shaped magnets and monogrammed Western-themed koozies.
