A Jazz Age–Themed Wedding at Tavern on the Green in New York City
Gilded Gatsby was the inspiration behind Eduardo Gonzalez Angel (49 and an architect) and Kevin McCarthy's (51 and works in finance) lavish nuptials in Manhattan’s bucolic Central Park. As a nod to Eduardo’s work as an architect, the couple incorporated metallics and art deco accents—including gold-rimmed dinnerware and sequined linens—throughout the brick-paved patio at Tavern on the Green. Prior to the start of the ceremony, boa-draped attendants distributed metallic ribbons for guests to wave as Eduardo and Kevin walked up the aisle. Gold easels displayed excerpts from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famed novel, and the couple played the part by dressing in true The Great Gatsby–inspired fashion. Eduardo donned a formal tuxedo, top hat and tails, while Kevin exuded elegance in a white dinner jacket. Both the vows and the celebratory reception took place outdoors, where arrangements of white calla lilies popped against monochromatic table linens. Geometric detailing and a custom silhouette topper adorned the chocolate-coconut cake. As live jazz music filled the alfresco setting, guests were invited to enjoy treats from a cigar bar and a champagne tower lined with coupes.
