A Hip, Colorful Wedding at The Ruby Street in Los Angeles, California
A decommissioned church chock-full of light and existing furniture was an obvious, albeit unconventional choice for newlyweds Alex Ebel (30 and a writer) and Spencer Houck (33 and a film and television editor). “We loved that it was a one-stop shop, where we could have the ceremony outside and the party inside,” Alex says. The pair incorporated mid-century modern details throughout the converted space. “Ultimately, we just wanted to throw a good party and make it feel breezy and not too sanctimonious,” Spencer adds. Colorful strips of fabric created a vibrant ceremony backdrop. Alex’s hunt for the right wedding dress was much shorter than she had anticipated. “My mom actually found my dress at Nordstrom for 90 bucks,” she says. She scored an ivory, knee-length design, which she eventually paired with white sneakers once the reception was well underway. Urban Oven dished up hot pizza baked in an on-site oven.
