A Hindu-Christian Fusion Wedding in Grassy Key, Florida
“I wanted to incorporate beachy details, but still wanted the elegant look of a sunset wedding,” Michelle says of their destination affair. For the mid-morning Indian ceremony, they opted for vibrant shades of pink, then transitioned to white and cream for the events that followed. Michelle and Sal had two ceremonies—one Indian and one Christian—followed by a sunset reception on the beach. The couple was married in a traditional Indian ceremony beneath a mandap on the water’s edge, and arrangements of orange, pink and red blooms dotted the cocktail hour space.
Since the couple served Indian bites after the Hindu ceremony, they opted for a formal dinner in the evening. Gold place settings gave the reception a regal feel, while arrangements of white flowers kept the look clean. For dessert, guests were given the choice between cake and Key lime pie—an island staple.
The couple held the reception beneath a sheer tent adorned with woven lanterns for a subtle beach touch. A single long table was covered by a gauzy gray linen and topped with silver lanterns and gold tableware. “Hire a planner,” Michelle advises for a destination wedding. “My planner made everything easier when organizing from 1,200 miles away.”
