A Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Wedding in San Antonio, Texas

Knowing how hot and humid September in San Antonio can be, Libby and Stan set out to create a crisp and cool feel for their elegant Texas-themed day.

Knowing how hot and humid September in San Antonio can be, Libby and Stan set out to create a crisp and cool feel for their elegant Texas-themed day. They pulled it off thanks to a neutral color palette, light and airy fabrics, lavish florals and rustic hints of jute.

Following the ceremony, guests boarded river cruise boats for a tour of the River Walk before being dropped off at the reception site for cocktail hour.
At the entrance to the reception, guests found a table topped with rustic wooden boxes filled with tags. Everyone was invited to pen a few words of advice for the newlyweds, as well as pick up a special packet of blue bonnet seeds.
Tall centerpieces filled with roses, stock, hydrangeas and eucalyptus leaves spilled out over the top of silver candlesticks.
Stan’s eight-year-old brother and Libby’s nine-year-old cousin carried a garland of eucalyptus and cream roses down the aisle, which was then draped across the backs of the couple’s chairs at the altar.
A tall wood wall, filled from top to bottom with candles in mercury glass votives, sat behind a lush ivory floral arrangement.
The ivory and gold escort cards sat in wooden trays filled with moss. The display was an eye-catching combination of rustic, yet elegant decor.
Silver dragées and sugar peonies decorated their classic white buttercream cake, which was displayed on a silver cake stand with seeded eucalyptus.
At the end of the night, Libby and Sam made their getaway through a tunnel of sparklers.
The couple's signature gold, two-letter monogram was used throughout the wedding stationery, including the escort cards.
“This was definitely a crowd favorite from the weekend,” recalls Libby. The couple served their signature drink, prickly pear margaritas, in martini glasses.
The couple's ceremony included a full Catholic mass, with family members reading the Prayer of the Faithful and performing the presentation of the gifts.
The escort card table marked the entrance to the reception, and was topped with rustic lanterns, wooden boxes and a large urn filled with ivory and white flowers.
Rustic lanterns, surrounded by neutral-color blooms and ribbon, decorated the entrance to the grotto.
The celebration ended as the couple rode off into the night on the back of a pedicab, decked out with a Just Married sign and a rope of flowers.
Libby and Sam knew they wanted impressive, memorable invitations, so they worked with a calligrapher to create a custom two-letter monogram for all their wedding stationery. The end result was a gorgeous letter pressed suite in a mushroom Chevalier font.
The reception band, Sauce, performed At Last by Etta James for the couple's first dance.
“In keeping with our desire to showcase the best of San Antonio, we chose San Fernando Cathedral for our ceremony—one of the oldest cathedrals in the US,” Libby says. “The cathedral itself is so magnificent that we didn’t want anything to distract from it.” In the end, the couple only added small white arrangements on the pews.
“About 80 percent of our guests had to travel eight hours or more to get to our wedding,” explains Libby. “This was the first time many of them had been to San Antonio, so we really wanted to highlight the River Walk and all things San Antonio.”
The newlyweds recessed to Mendelssohn's Wedding March following the ceremony.
The head table combined both tall arrangements on silver candelabras and a burlap runner covered with a 40-foot floral rope that draped off each end.
