A Hawaii-Inspired Wedding at Ole Hanson Beach Club in San Clemente, California
Borrowing tropical elements from the bride’s home state of Hawaii, Summer Strauch (an executive television producer and photographer) and Kiernan McGuire (a CEO) planned an epic beach bash for 120 guests. As a symbol of hospitality and friendship, dozens of fresh pineapples were woven throughout the day’s design, and each guest was greeted with a white orchid lei and pineapple filled with fruit juice upon entering the ceremony space. “I always wanted to marry under a lush arch of monstera leaves, which symbolize good luck,” Summer says. “The end result was just as magical as I dreamt it would be.” Massive monstera leaves framed the couple, while pineapples lined the length of the alfresco aisle. An asymmetrical bouquet of white lilies, king protea and ferns echoed the tropical theme and modern, all-white palette. Both Kiernan and Summer had a processional of their own, with family and friends ushering the groom down the aisle to the tune of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Guests took a seat at tables named for landmark Hawaiian surf breaks. Kiernan paired his linen suit with a maile lei and a fishhook pendant .During the ohana-style meal, guests indulged in fresh poke, kalua pulled pork, ice cream sandwiches, mahi-mahi and mai tais—all while the Kalama Brothers band performed nearby. Post-dinner, Summer performed the hula—a Hawaiian tradition. “I felt like I was home,” she says.
