A Greenery-Filled Wedding at Mountain Mermaid in Topanga, California, Inspired by Puerto Rico
Calvin and Xavi were determined to say “I do” come rain or shine—literally. Once Hurricane Maria derailed the couple’s plans to marry in Xavi’s native Puerto Rico less than two months before their November wedding date, the couple was forced to move their vows stateside. “We were able to pull off an entirely new wedding in a handful of weeks,” Calvin says. The couple found a venue that echoed the lush land of their original destination, and from there, incorporated homages to Puerto Rico in the leafy centerpieces and a Latin-flavored menu. Even more meaningful, loved ones were able to make it from Puerto Rico in time to see Calvin and Xavi on their wedding day. Calvin chose patterned Gucci loafers while Xavi picked the same pair in ombré green. Instead of choosing a single style or color for their maids of honor, Calvin and Xavi gave their gals a color palette that complemented their respective suits. “We encouraged them to find something they felt beautiful in,” Calvin says. The couple favored greenery over florals, so fern, monstera leaves and sprigs made appearances throughout the day's decor. Patterned plates and graphic menus popped against neutral linens and brought an island feel to the venue. The newlyweds surprised guests with a nearly cake filled with rainbow confetti on the inside.
