Exactly one year to the day after Pablo Patino (29) got engaged to Felisa Li (29), the high school sweethearts made their union official in a Catholic ceremony followed by an ultra-personalized reception at the Berg Event Space in Kansas City’s Crossroads district. “Being that Pablo and I are both from big cities, we wanted our theme to feel more urban and industrial,” Felisa says. The couple outfitted the loft venue with an abundance of greenery and muted ivory and lavender accents. As a nod to the groom’s background, programs were written in both Spanish and English, and guests noshed on homemade Ecuadorian desserts. Heels weren’t an option for Felisa, who sported flat sandals throughout the evening. “I was all about comfort!” she says. Buttercream icing covered tiers of German chocolate, classic chocolate, and marbled cake. A few select friends surprised the newlyweds with a red envelope exchange—a good-luck tradition common in Chinese culture. “We incorporated certain Latin and Asian dishes into our menu too,” Felisa says. The pair served Ecuadorian menestra and fried plantains.
