A Glamorous Pink-and-Gold Ballroom Wedding at the Hyatt Regency in Baltimore, Maryland
To celebrate their marriage, Afua and Buddy planned a glamorous ballroom wedding at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, with a luxurious pink-and-gold color palette. We wanted our wedding to feel magical so we chose shades of pink for our florals and incorporated lots of light elements like candles and chandeliers for that WOW factor," explains Afua. However, the couple didn't want their wedding to just be beautiful, they also wanted it to be packed with meaning and personalization. "My family is from Ghana so we had a separate traditional Ghanaian wedding the day before to honor that heritage. Our wedding day was all about bringing our two families and cultures together to celebrate our love."
To bring the couple's glam vision to life, the duo relied heavily on luxurious floral arrangements to do the job. "Florals were a huge part of our reception," says Afua. "Our design team built a sweetheart area with flowers hanging from the ceiling and cascading down the steps. It was the focal point of our reception space and all our guests loved it. We also put a lot of floral detail into our estate tables, which seated our immediate families and some VIP guests. Florals from the two estate tables cascaded down to the floor as well, hugging our custom dance floor. Our decorator did an amazing job!"
Looking back on the wedding day, Afua and Buddy note that "our absolute favorite part of our wedding was being to walk around during the reception to greet and take pictures with our guests. One of our photographers followed us and got pictures of almost everyone! We've created a photo book with these pictures because most of them were candid and show how much fun everyone had at our wedding. We also incorporated some games during dinnertime that kept our guests entertained while we changed into our second outfits. This seems to have been a crowd favorite because almost everyone mentioned how much fun they had playing the games. Lastly, we asked our DJ for a 90s R&B playlist for dinnertime that had guests requesting a wedding soundtrack!"
When asked what advice the couple has for current to-be-weds in the throes of wedding planning, Afua and Buddy note that "planning a wedding can be extremely stressful, so if it is in the budget hire a trusted planner to bring your vision to life. And at each step of the process communicate with your partner about your goals/vision so that you're on the same page and can present a united front if you run into any friction with friends and family. In the weeks and days leading up to your wedding, delegate as much as possible so you are not stressed. Do not stress over the little details, especially on your wedding day. Remember to stop and share a moment by yourself and with your partner because it really does go by fast!"
