Nasheila Blakney (26 and a health care professional) jokes she’s the “ultimate princess.” Fittingly, once engaged to Jermaine Rutherford (32 and also a health care professional), she began dreaming up her own “royal affair,” choosing the Biltmore Ballrooms for its regal design. Ivory and gold accents, plus towering floral arrangements, set the stately scene. “I loved my dress the moment I tried it on,” Nasheila says. “I always knew I wanted to bring drama!” She even lengthened the train to add more impact. For even more glam, the bride added Swarovski crystals to her veil and bouquet of roses, ranunculus and orchids. Once wed, the couple moved to a reception decorated with sequin-studded linens and orchids galore. Caribbean hits in honor of the groom’s heritage stunned guests, as did the pair’s covetable getaway car: a 2017 Bentley coupe. Aiming for “chic sophistication,” Nasheila dressed her girls in French-vanilla-colored gowns. The group carried white hydrangeas and roses, which also adorned the couple’s six-tier dessert. Crystal chandeliers, plaster relief ceilings and gold-edged columns created a palace-like reception backdrop. Certain the cake’s three flavors—red velvet, chocolate and vanilla—would be a hit, the duo provided to-go boxes so guests could take slices home as favors.
