A Glam Wedding at The Grand Hall in Kansas City, Missouri, Inspired by "The Great Gatsby"

Ashley and Dan bonded over a shared love of history and old-world architecture, despite meeting in the most modern way possible: a dating app. “When we got engaged, we knew we wanted to incorporate those shared passions into our wedding,” Ashley says. The pair turned to the Prohibition era for inspiration and discovered that their beloved Kansas City was once called the “Paris of the Plains.” When Ashley and Dan found the Grand Hall, they knew that the “art deco masterpiece,” as Ashley calls it, would be the ideal backdrop for their vows. From there, the couple incorporated glam vintage elements into each part of their ceremony and reception, from gilded place settings to a towering wedding cake.  Ashley carried orchids, calla lilies and lilies of the valley clasped with an antique locket. Ashley’s bridesmaids wore floor-length dresses in the signature color of the Roaring Twenties: champagne. After the ceremony, guests headed to tables topped with 1920s-inspired numbers, geometric votive candles and white roses in vintage gold vases. To end the night, Ashley and Dan cut into a fondant cake decorated with geometric patterns fit for the Gilded Age before offering guests ice cream sandwiches from their favorite local ice cream shop.
