A Glam, Botanical Bohemian Wedding at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Virginia

Drawing inspiration from the garden venue and Graham’s family’s flower farm, Marissa Hermanson (28 and a journalist) and Graham Moomaw (30 and a journalist) threw a bloom-centric affair featuring vintage furniture, classic Southern bites, a bluegrass band and an “epic Conga line.”

“It was fun playing ‘creative director’ for our wedding,” Marissa says of collaborating with family, her florist and Graham’s sister, Mary Ellen, and a day-of coordinator for her spring nuptials. Flowers from the family farm, including everything from peonies and anemones to dramatic vines, created a whimsical atmosphere heightened by the venue’s blooming tulips and vintage-inspired décor. “It was just magical,” she says.

The couple decorated the ceremony space with mismatched chairs, oriental rugs, aisle arrangements of honeysuckle, dogwood and tulips, and a stunning archway of smilax, rose canes and white delphinium.

The wedding party paired blush bridesmaid dresses with peony bouquets, while groomsmen in navy suits and pink ties sported boutonnieres of ranunculus and jasmine. Fresh, seasonal flowers also topped the four-tier buttercream cake, while the flower girl wore a crown of greenery during the ceremony.

“She was the comic relief,” Marissa says of flower girl Lola. “Hearing our guests’ laughter at her antics calmed my nerves.”

During the tented reception, guests dined on quite the Southern feast: Barboursville wines, a Virginia ham spread, fried chicken, apple-cider-braised collard greens and beef brisket. The newlyweds later nightcapped with cigars, Drambuie and gougères. “Guests raved about the food,” Marissa says.

Tall centerpieces included sculptural dogwood and honeysuckle.

“It’s a classic, and the cover gave it a modern sound,” Marissa says of their first dance to Arctic Monkeys’ cover of “Baby I’m Yours.”
