A Gatsby Inspired Wedding at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, California
Kalista Barter (27 and a non-profit fundraiser) and Kyle Stephan (31 and a water purification specialist) met on board a sailboat where Kyle was the instructor and Kalista a student. The two hit it off so well that he gave her his number and they met for dinner that night. Kalista spent her entire senior year taking as many sailing classes as she could to impress Kyle and it must have paid off! A few years later the two were vacationing at a cliffside cottage in Jamaica and Kyle proposed. The ceremony and reception were held at the beautiful Headlands Center for the Arts, a rustic venue with organic surroundings. Kalista and Kyle designed their day without colors or a theme, simply pieces that represented the two of them. Kyle spend weeks designing the craft beer menu and typing out the escort cards on a vintage typewriter. Kalista designed and watercolored the invitations and brewed the homemade limoncello with lemons from her mothers garden. The two are very proactive in making sure nothing they use goes to waste and were able to find a florist that could help them achieve this. They spent weeks collecting bottles and jars to use as the vases for the centerpieces and at the end of the day, whatever flowers the couple did not take home with them were put outside for the deer to eat. Their dinner menu was based on the freshest vegan finds at the local farmers markets in a family style sit down dinner. Kalista loved the idea of a jazz-inspired evening and found an 8-piece jazz band to cover old jazz classics for the night. The night came to a close as all of the guests gathered around and danced to the bands version of "Proud Mary".
