A Fun Red, Black and White Wedding at Vermilionville in Lafayette, Louisiana
We’ve seen a lot of vintage and DIY weddings, but Nikki Menard (32 and a makeup artist) and Lucas Menard (29 and a banker) took their theme to new heights with gorgeous handmade flowers, an eye-catching dress and a few Southern-inspired details. The wedding started with a simple porch ceremony at Vermilionville in Lafayette, Louisiana, as glowing lanterns hung from the white picket fence. Nikki walked down the aisle in a gorgeous ivory mermaid wedding dress by Maggie Sottero with floral appliques. The twist? Every embroidered rose was black. She completed the look with a bold, black sash and rosettes. For a pop of color, she carried a paper bouquet of red roses with a paisley print, white hydrangeas and greenery with a lock. Lucas waited for her in a gray Perry Ellis suit with a paper boutonniere and the matching keys. After the couple shared its first kiss, all took part in a traditional second line led by an authentic brass band. The march ended in their barn reception, as blue, green and red uplighting filled the room. Each family-style table was met with flowers made of sheet music and baby’s-breath-filled mason jars. “I wanted flowers that would stand the test of time,” Nikki says. “So my sister and I made over 100 paper flowers.” Heirloom Collective captured each moment, including a few tunes from the brass band, below. For future couples, Nikki shares a tip: “Things will never be perfect. When something goes wrong, remember you've been planning for a while and there's nothing you can do to change it in one day, so have fun and don’t stress.”
