A Fun Backyard Wedding at The Ruby Street in Los Angeles, California

Layne Baker (36 and a therapist) and Will Doughty (43 and an actor, musician and educator) threw an intimate party for 56, looking to The Ruby Street, a hip, historic church turned event space, for design direction. The stained glass window in the space’s Worship Hall inspired the day’s palette, a vibrant mix of blue, green and golden yellow. After a cocktail hour of Mexican favorites in the lounge-style parlor, guests moved outdoors to enjoy tacos from a food truck alongside margaritas, wine and beer. “Our style was inspired by wanting an easy, comfortable vibe,” Layne says. An original song written and performed by Will called “A Little Too Soon, A Little Too Late and Right On Time” sums up the spirit of the party: just right. The couple snapped a picture beneath an existing neon sign on the property. Layne’s brother officiated the ceremony that included personal vows. Guests were asked to seat themselves at tables set with striped bistro napkins, wood tableware and colorful blankets. Planted succulents that doubled as favors marked place settings. Dessert featured devil’s food cake with salted caramel ganache and lemon chiffon cake with coconut buttercream. The bride’s mom thrifted vintage, colored glass bottles to fill with greenery from her backyard.
