Melissa Gomez (29 and an attorney) and Calvin Nelson (37 and an attorney) may not be Austin natives, but they’re no strangers to the city’s fun, laid-back vibe. Since they knew it would be an easy and exciting destination for their friends and family, they got married at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas—and the luxurious, rustic feel of this Hill Country resort couldn’t have fit Austin better. Melissa’s lace Ines Di Santo wedding dress spoke to the day's elegant style, which planner Liv by Design helped create with a palette of ivory and navy with hints of silver and gold. Their formal fall fete began with a sunset ceremony overlooking the golf course, where Melissa and Calvin participated in the Hispanic lasso-unity tradition surrounded by dramatic ivory orchids, peonies, roses and hydrangeas from Flora Fetish. Later, modern music set the tone for the party, starting with a string quartet playing pop music at the cocktail hour. Melissa and Calvin revved up the reception with a first dance that blended their cultures (and showed off some seriously fancy footwork): They danced a foxtrot to Harry Connick Jr.’s “It Had to Be You,” followed by a rumba to Gloria Estafan’s “Con Los Anos Que Me Quedan.” (We’re definitely impressed!) Their homemade dessert display represented their cultures too: It had varieties of Mexican wedding cookies, Caribbean black cake, Guyanese pine tarts and more. Our favorite local touch? Melissa and Calvin’s ceremony took place under a clear tent on a deck overlooking the golf course at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas, with the Hill Country in the backdrop. Ivory hydrangeas framed the white and navy aisle, leading to dramatic arrangements of orchids, peonies, roses and hydrangeas in large, white urns framing the spot where Melissa and Calvin said their vows.

Calvin wore an Ermenegildo Zegna tux with a watch from Melissa. His groomsmen also wore classic black-and-white tuxes with classic bow ties and white boutonnieres for the black tie celebration.

Melissa wore her hair in a soft romantic updo to highlight the off-the-shoulder neckline and low back of her wedding dress. She kept her makeup natural with slightly darker eyes for a little drama.

The centerpieces continued the theme of lush ivory flowers, and included a mixture of high and low arrangements of orchids, peonies and hydrangeas with elegant silver candelabras and candles contributing to the warm ambience.
